Happy Friday, faithful Tor readers! I have a beautiful thing for you to end the week - and be proud, because I'm valiantly resisting the urge to make an 'eye-catching cover' pun.
Laura Lam's gripping near-future thriller, SHATTERED MINDS, publishes in hardback this month - and regular readers may have seen our cover reveal on Tor.com. The images on there don't really do the cover justice. Copies have recently arrived at Tor HQ, and they are so shiny you can see your face in them! We can't wait to see them on the shelves. For a tantalizing glimpse of the story that awaits you, click here for a free extract.
Shattered Minds, for those of you who missed the hardback reveal, is a standalone novel set in the same world as False Hearts - it stars a female 'Dexter'-eque protagonist, who grapples with her own murderous urges, whilst trying to bring down the organization that destroyed her mind.
For the paperback - which publishes February 2018 - we wanted something along the same lines as the False Hearts paperback. A bold, striking development of the iconic hardback image. And as usual, Neil Lang of the Pan Mac art department has really delivered, giving us this utterly compelling cover:
She can uncover the truth, if she defeats her demons
Ex-neuroscientist Carina struggles with a drug problem, her conscience, and urges to kill. She satisfies her cravings in dreams, fuelled by the addictive drug ‘Zeal’. Now she’s heading for self-destruction – until she has a vision of a dead girl.
Sudice Inc. damaged Carina when she worked on their sinister brain-mapping project, causing her compulsions. And this girl was a similar experiment. When Carina realizes the vision was planted by her old colleague Mark, trying to expose the company, she knows he’s probably dead. If she can’t unmask her nemesis, she’ll be next.
To unlock the secrets Mark hid in her mind, she’ll need specialist hackers. Dax, a doctor who helps with her addictions, is part of their group and they grow close. But first she must destroy her adversary – before it changes us and our society, forever.
